Let’s Try That Again: HFTV Drop Their Round 2 Predictions

Let’s just say it—our brackets got absolutely DESTROYED in Round 1. Upsets, collapses, and some shocking Game 7 finishes left our first-round predictions in ruins. But like any die-hard hockey fan, we’re back for more punishment with our Round 2 NHL Playoff predictions. From the Florida Panthers looking to haunt Toronto again, to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl dialed in for a deep run, we’ve got breakdowns, opinions, and bold takes for each second-round matchup. Whether you’re riding with the favorites or backing chaos, here’s how Alex and Ced see Round 2 shaking out.

FLA in 6

Yeah, I know—very surprising for a Habs fan to say this—but the truth is, the Panthers are going to be too much for Toronto to handle. I don’t expect it to be as easy as 2023 when the Leafs were steamrolled in Round 2, but I don’t see how they take down this Florida squad.

The Capitals really surprised me against the Habs. They looked focused and much meaner than I expected. Defensively, they were sharp, too. I think the Hurricanes can last longer in the fight, but the Caps are coming in stronger and nastier.

DAL in 6

Both Dallas and Winnipeg had gutsy Game 7 comebacks, but Dallas impressed me more. Rantanen was the X-factor last round, and I expect more of the same. Hellebuyck just hasn’t found playoff consistency, and with Heiskanen likely back, I like Dallas here.

I’ve got bias—I’m loyal to the f***in' Oil. I don’t think Vegas has the edge here. McDavid and Draisaitl have found their gear, and they won’t let this chance go. Too much firepower, too much on the line.

Heiskanen and Robertson returning makes this a totally different team. They’re the heart of Dallas, and their timing couldn’t be better. Winnipeg looks gassed—plain and simple.

EDM in 7

Sure, both teams have defensive lapses, but the Oilers have two top lines that are clicking hard. That’s something Vegas can’t match. McDavid and Draisaitl will make the difference when it matters.

Name one physical player on Carolina. Exactly. Washington brings grit the Hurricanes don’t have. Logan Thompson may be inconsistent, but when he’s hot, he’s elite. That alone could push the Caps deep.

TOR in 7

Honestly? I don’t even know why I’m picking the Leafs. Maybe it’s for the inevitable heartbreak. Still, this team might have the best roster left. And players like Stolarz and Lorentz bring that every-shift energy I love to see—especially as a Habs fan.

Martin St. Louis Leaving Out Xhekaj for Game 2 Is the RIGHT Call. For Now.

The spotlight after Game 1 for the Montreal Canadiens was not on the 19 players who played, but rather on 24 year old Arber Xhekaj and whether the Habs need him in game 2.
