Conor Garland Traded to Columbus: Nucko’s Thoughts

Conor Garland wanted to be a Canuck. On July 1st, 2025, he signed a 6-year, $6 million contract extension with the team that will kick in at the start of next season. The contract includes a full no-movement clause for the first 3 years of the deal. Unfortunately for Garland, he's currently on the last year of a 5x4.95 with no trade protection. The Canucks took advantage of that on Thursday night.

Tyler Myers Traded to Dallas: Nucko’s Thoughts

Here come the trades. On Wednesday, the Canucks traded Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars (50% retained) for a 2027 2nd round pick and a 2029 4th round pick. This trade isn't a complete shock, as Myers had been held out of the Canucks' lineup for "roster-management purposes" the past 3 games, but it still wasn't a guarantee that he would be waiving his No-Movement Clause.

The Victoire Melts The Frost

Montreal shut out the Minnesota Frost 4–0 in their return home after the Olympic break. A hint of redemption was likely in the air, considering the Minnesota Frost had six players on their roster who are now Olympic champions. The Pros and Cons of Trading Elias Pettersson

The Canucks are in full-blown rebuild mode now. After some struggles with labels, the Canucks seem to be comfortable calling their current stage a rebuild now. This is the most obvious pathway for the post-Hughes era, giving them a chance to actually reset the franchise and start over again with a new young core in a couple years.

Kiefer Sherwood Traded to San Jose: First Thoughts

Another domino has fallen. On Monday afternoon, the Canucks announced that they have traded Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2026 2nd round pick, a 2027 2nd round pick, and defenseman Cole Clayton. The past two seasons of Canucks hockey have not been particularly full of wins, but that was far from Kiefer Sherwood’s fault. Sherwood ends his Canucks tenure with 63 points in 122 games. He also ends his Canucks tenure with 672 hits in those 122 games, which is 5.5 per game. That is a hilariously absurd statistic.

The 2026 To-Do List: 5 Goals for the Canucks in the New Year

Murphy’s Law states “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” That was the story of the Vancouver Canucks in 2025. Do I even really have to go through it? I begrudgingly will. They had a public feud between stars, traded J.T. Miller, missed the playoffs, traded for Evander Kane, started off this current season in terrible fashion, and capped the year off by trading Quinn Hughes in December. It was a real rollercoaster of a year for the team. Except it was a rollercoaster that only goes down.

Quinn Hughes To Minnesota: First Thoughts

I guess it was inevitable. On Friday night the Canucks traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren, and a 2026 1st round pick. Though we knew a Quinn Hughes trade was a very real possibility, I was still left absolutely blindsided by that Elliotte Friedman tweet.

Which Canucks Veterans Are Most Likely to Be Traded?

Elliotte Friedman lit the Canucks world on fire Monday night. In an X post, Friedman reported that the Canucks have made their veteran players available. This currently does not include Quinn Hughes. The report comes shortly after the Canucks’ front office rejected the idea of a rebuild. I guess this 180 is what happens when you’ve only won 3 games throughout November. The question for now is: who’s getting moved? Now I don’t have all the inside information on the Canucks, but usually it hasn’t been too hard to tell what’s just smoke and what’s for real.
